The interest from NPs right across the province has been overwhelming. We are proud to have so many engaged Nurse Practitioners in Alberta who are willing to work towards independence and self-governance for NPs.
We know there will be challenges and hurdles along the way. Without a doubt there will be other groups who will take steps to absorb our small community of NPs into a larger, less nimble and far less responsive entity. Groups, for example, who have in the past and recently even advocated that RNs should be paid more than NPs
Collectively we have to resist attempts to splinter or water down the voice of NPs in Alberta; only if we work as a united group with one voice can we hope to make a meaningful difference in the working conditions and compensation for NPs in Alberta.
